Migration

Mehr als 500 000 Metallerinnen und Metaller haben einen Migrationshintergrund. Viele von ihnen sind ehrenamtlich aktiv – in den Betrieben genauso wie in ihrer Gewerkschaft. Wie Du mitmachen kannst.

Wenn Ali Güzel über seine Familiengeschichte spricht, kommt dabei unweigerlich die IG Metall vor: „Die IG Metall ist für mich eine Drei-Generationen-Organisation: Mein Vater, mein Sohn und ich, wir sind alle organisiert.“

Güzel ist Betriebsratsvorsitzender bei ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe. In seinem Betrieb spiegelt sich die Vielfältigkeit der deutschen Gesellschaft im Jahr 2024: „In unserer Firma arbeiten Menschen aus rund 150 Nationen“, sagt er. „Diese Vielfalt haben wir auch in der IG Metall.“

So wie Ali Güzel geht es vielen Kolleginnen und Kollegen mit Migrationshintergrund: Sie haben in der Gewerkschaft eine Heimat gefunden. Wie vor ihnen bereits ihre Väter oder Mütter – oder sogar ihre Großeltern. Man könnte die IG Metall eine „Einwanderungsgewerkschaft“ nennen. Und das schon seit Jahrzehnten.
 

Aktiv im Betrieb

Viele der migrantischen IG Metall-Mitglieder sind in Betriebsräten oder gewerkschaftlich aktiv. Rund 21 Prozent der IG Metall-Betriebsratsmitglieder haben einen Migrationshintergrund. In der Jugend- und Auszubildendenvertretung (JAV) sind es 26 Prozent. Und unter den IG Metall-Mitglieder mit Gewerkschaftsfunktion (z.B. Vertrauensleute, Mitglieder in Tarifkommissionen) haben 29 Prozent eine Migrationsgeschichte.

Die Gleichstellung aller Kolleginnen und Kollegen ist ständiger Auftrag der IG Metall – so steht es in unserer Satzung. In vielen IG Metall-Geschäftsstellen gibt es Migrationsausschüsse, in denen sich Kolleginnen und Kollegen für Gleichstellung und gegen Diskriminierung einsetzen.

Wer sich dort einbringen möchte, wendet sich am besten an die IG Metall vor Ort.
